Tip-off classic October 30, 2006
It's the first annual NCHB tip-off classic in Springfield MO. Traveling to Springfield was kinda long, but we got to see The Arch and where The St. Louis
Cardinals play. Our first game was against the Metro Academy Mavericks from Kansas City. We came into this game pumped up with a lot of energy.
After the first quarter we were winning 13-4. At half we were up 27-13, but it wasn't over yet. The Mavs started the third quarter with a 10-0 run. We
snapped back but by the end of the quarter it was still too close for comfort with the score at 35-30. The Cavalry had a monster quarter and put The
Mavs away with the final score of 53-38. The FEAST Patriots await.
BIG Competition October 30, 2006
The Crestwood Cavalry against the #1 homeschool team in the country; FEAST Patriots. Our first problem was one of our key players (Joel) getting
two fouls in the first quarter and a third right at the start of the second. After the first quarter we were down 21-14. Even with Joel out 7 of the 8
minutes in the second quarter the Cavalry held the Patriots to 27-38. In the third quarter FEAST took over and at one point had a 24 point lead. Our
defense stepped it up and by the end of the third the score was 41-57, we were only down 16. The amazing Cavalry defense continued to battle and
with Yerimiah's last second bomb we only lost by 9. 9 points to the best team in the country, in only the second game of the season. That's pretty
good. The last game of the tip-off will be for 3rd place.
Going for third October 30, 2006
3rd place game now in the first annual NCHB Tip-off classic versus Summit MI. If we win we are probably going to be fourth in the nation. The game
started with our first 12 points being three's. But after the first quarter the score was 19-15. The second quarter was back and fourth, and the score
at half was 32-28. Then our lead got a little bigger and at the end of the third we were up 43-35. Summit become down only three with 3 seconds on
clock and their ball. They get the ball to their best player, for three, the tie and overtime, and it goes in and out, no good. We came away with the win.
We are hopefully now ranked fouth in the country. Next game versus Hammond see you then.
Opening Day November 10, 2006
The rest of the Cavalry teams get to open their season against Hammond Baptist. The first game was the Primary team. This game started out
close, it was 2-2, then 6-4, then we caught a run and ended the first quarter up 11-4. Then at the end of the half we were up 17-9. By the end of the
third we were up 23-9. The final score for the primary game was 35-11. The Jr high game was close until the end at half we were down only 8-12. But
they extended their lead to 12-21 by the end of the third quarter. We lost that game 29-14. They JV pulled out a great win with the final score of
34-23. Then there was the varsity game, the best game of the night, and the loudest. At the end of the first quarter and half time we were all tied up.
By the third quarter we started to pull away with the lead of 56-45. Hammond caught fire and came back in the fourth quarter. Hammond tied it up
with about 40 seconds left. Yerimiah hits two free throws and we lead 62-60. Hammond then tied it back up, but Joel scored and put us back up by
2. We foul Hammond, first shot good, second not so much. Joel grabs the rebound and gets fouled. He makes bot attempts and puts us by 3. Only
1.4 seconds on the clock. Hammond inbounds it to half court, pass, three point shot, no good! The final score was 66-63. So the Cavalry end the
first series of the season 3-1.
Golden Sweep November 11, 2006
Our next game was against the Indianapolis Golden Eagles. After a long and boring three hour drive we got to the church, went inside, man this
gym was small. The first game was going to be the J.V, This game was pretty well fought, the went back and fourth the whole time. At the end of
one the score was 5-7 Eagles had the lead. Eagle held the lead through the second, but the score was still only 13-15. After the third the Eagles
had gained some ground and ended the quarter with an even bigger lead, the score was 19-29. The Eagle eventually went on to win 25-31. Now
the varsity game was one of those games where nothing went our way. The refs weren't too good, we couldn't grab tipped balls, they got too
many easy shots, and none of our shots went down. In this game we did not have the lead once, NOT ONCE. We tied but never led. We had many
chances to take the lead but a win obviously wasn't meant to be. We lost this game 43-54, that puts the Crestwood Cavalry's overall series
record* to 1-1-0. Hopefully we can get it back against Crossroads.
* A series record is when two or more Cavalry teams have games against the same opponent in one day. The first number is for series wins, the
second for series loses, and the third for series ties.
Welcome Home November 13,2006
Howdy readers!! Greetings from the Crestwood Rec Center for the '06-'07 home opener. This game is going to be so cool. The first game is going
to be the J.V. These games tonight were great bounce back games for both J.V. and Varsity after a tough day in Indianapolis. Both games were
alot of fun to watch, for the cavalry fans at least. In the J.V. game I'm pretty sure we had the lead the entire time The score by quarters was 13-6
after one, 33-21 at half, 38-27 after 3, and the final score was 44-29. The Varsity game was just as exciting for us. The score by quarters was 13-7
after 1, 33-16 at half, 60-29 after 3, and the final score was 73-47. Again, both games were very fun, especially because it was our first home
game. So this moves our overall series record th 2-1-0. Varsity is playing in the Faith tourny this weekend I will write soon!!
